The Korean electronics giant seems to have secured glass manufacturers for UTG, the component Samsung plans to use in its new phone lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. As South Korean media said, Samsung continues to rely on it. Existing partners—material suppliers and the final display crafting process—are the way he’s done it. The market launch of these new fold-ups is expected to happen in July 2024.

The UTG layer is a key element that is useful in flexible phone displays. It is the extremely thin glazing on the screen that provides the required strength and scratch resistance, which is rare but important. In 2021, when Samsung came up with the third generation of foldables, the company handed over the final process of using those UTGs in its products to two Korea-based companies i.e. Iconi and Douwoo Insys.

This binding affinity still holds for Z fold 6 and Flip 6. From a marketing perspective, the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 marked a significant change in the smartphone market. Apple’s advertising strategies played a key role in making the iPhone a household name. One of their main strategies was to label the iPhone as a “premium device”. This strategy established the iPhone as a

Douwo will be handling the UTG preparation for the Z Fold variant for the second time, and Iconi is also at the forefront of the UTG preparation for Flip 6. This involves thinning down the UTG which is usually provided by an OEM supplier and precision cutting of the sheet to fit the panels of different folding phones, which have different shapes and sizes. Samsung offers precise parameters and measurements that other companies can use.

The report also reveals an honest aspect of the nature of UTG content which is unusual. The Z Fold 6 is said to be made with the same type of UTG that is used by Schot, a German company that specializes in special glasses. The Flip 6 will use UTG from Corning’s popular brand which is known for its Gorilla Glass products. Since Corning and Shot are already in Samsung’s vast supply chain, where Corning works with the smartphone division and Shot collaborates with the display division, this venture will tie together two essential divisions of the leading manufacturer, Samsung.

This is also the beginning of Samsung possibly making more foldable smartphones for its customers in the future. The latest rumor has come that we can expect a premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra and a standard Z Fold 6. Additionally, Samsung may be preparing a cheaper version of both the Fold and Flip models, which could be the Z Fold FE and Z. Flip FE. Typically, Samsung’s FE tag is indicative of high-end specifications at the cheapest price. We don’t know if all these rumors will be true or not because of time challenges.
