Samsung’s May 2024 security patch revealed for Galaxy devices

Key Points:

  • Samsung praised the plan for the May 2024 security patch to be released to select Galaxy smartphones and tabs in the next few weeks.
  • In this patch, all 45 vulnerabilities have been fixed as 33 vulnerabilities were sourced from Google; Three have been placed in the ‘critical’ category, while the other 26 have been placed in the ‘high’ severity category.
  • Another issue with the security app is protecting twelve vulnerabilities specifically targeted at Galaxy devices that include dialer interface manipulation, phone activation bypass, failure to detect authorized users, and unauthorized access to Secure Folder.

Taking a significant step towards enhancing the security walls of Samsung Galaxy phones, the tech giant has teased the upcoming May 2024 security update. Installed on more than half a billion eligible devices over the next few weeks, the release of this update reflects Samsung’s dedication to strengthening the digital security of its users.

There is an emphasis on addressing the wide spectrum of vulnerabilities that characterize Galaxy devices. Crucially, this patch will address 45 security vulnerabilities most of which are related to Google’s security infrastructure. In this regard, severity includes the words ‘serious’ and ‘high’, with a difference that reflects the severity of the problems we face.

The other side of the coin is the fact that Samsung devices in the Galaxy lineup are equally exposed to their specific security flaws. The company discovered the existence of 12 vulnerabilities which caused them to respond immediately to eliminate all of them. From Touchwood’s ability to circumvent the phone activation process to covert activities towards secure folders, this vulnerability point undermines the rationale for the current security framework.

Samsung’s significant backup to directly fight cyber attacks is a reflection of its unbeatable will to keep clients’ digital data safe enough. The May 2024 security update is a manifestation of this effort.
