We have just yet entered 2024 and the planning for 2025 smartphones has already begun in the tech world. Some recent reports suggest that ARM is planning to bring the best smartphone CPU core, which will be used in the flagship smartphones of 2025.
All the processors used inside Android smartphones use ARM Cortex CPU cores. 2024 flagship smartphone chips use the Cortex-X4 CPU core, which is around 25 to 30 percent slower than the custom ARM-based CPU core used in the latest Apple iPhone 15 Pro.
Therefore, to beat Apple in performance, ARM is expected to unveil the Cortex-X5 CPU core, and it will be used in processors from MediaTek and Samsung. While Qualcomm could implement its homegrown Nuvia custom CPU core in its next flagship chipset
In 2025, Samsung will unveil its next flagship series and the Cortex-X5 CPU will likely be used inside the 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset powered on some models of Galaxy S25 series. While the remaining Galaxy S25 units will likely use the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Notably, the ARM’s upcoming CPU is Codenamed “Blackhawk,” and is expected to bring the largest year-over-year performance gains in the past five years. It is also said to offer “great” large language model performance, suggesting a notable boost for generative AI tasks.
iPhones have always had an upper hand in terms of CPU performance. But, if this report comes out to be true then with this most powerful Cortex-X5 processor, the Samsung Galaxy S25 will be a real hit in 2025.
