Samsung Display unveiled its first OLEDoS screen for XR Headset

Samsung OLEDoS XR Headset

Samsung has now officially unveiled its first (Organic Light Emitting Diode on Silicon) OLEDoS screen with an RGB sub-pixel structure for the XR Headset. Notably, this OLEDoS panel will be used in Samsung’s upcoming XR headset as well as in Apple Vision Pro 2.

This newly launched OLEDoS is a 1.03-inch square screen that is created by applying organic materials on a silicon wafer. It has a high pixel density of 3,500ppi, which is comparable to viewing a 4K screen when wearing an XR/VR headset, and could support a 90Hz refresh rate.

Notably, the RGB OLEDoS is markedly more efficient than WOLED and color filter technology which produces light and color directly from nearby RGB sub-pixels on a single layer, putting an end to the need for a color filter and is created by eMagin, a US-based OLEDoS display manufacturing firm.
