Samsung crushed Apple which flew high in Q4 last year

The international market is seeing an economic slowdown, leading to reduced sales. While the iPhone 14 lineup helped Apple fly high in Q4 last year, the Galaxy S23 series helped Samsung snatch its crown back from the iPhone maker in Q1 2023.

According to TrendForce, Samsung crushed Apple in Q1 2023, thanks to the Galaxy S23 flagships. Samsung managed to grab 24.6% of the market, which is a 5.5% increase QoQ as compared to Q4 2022. However, the company has seen a decline of 16.7% YoY.

Samsung observed a slight surge in Q1 production thanks to the launch of its Galaxy S23 series, reaching 61.5 million units—a 5.5% QoQ rise. However, TrendForce predicts a nearly 10% drop in Q2 production due to weakening demand for new models.

In the first quarter of this year, Apple was second-place with 21.3% of the market. That’s a huge 27.5% decline Apple faced compared to the fourth quarter of last year. It’s an 11.9% decline compared to the same period last year (Q1 2022).

Completing top 5 spots:

  • OPPO was third-placed with 10.7% of the market, seen a decline of 17% QoQ, and 33.8% YoY
  • Xiaomi was fourth-placed with 10.6%, with 27.4% decline QoQ, and 40.4% YoY
  • Vivo was fifth-placed with 8%, seen a 14.2% decline QoQ, and a 12.3% decline YoY
