Samsung has joined hands with Google to develop an advanced 3D partial audio tech, the IAMF to rival Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in the future. This spatial audio technology has been adopted by the Alliance for Open Media, which consists of several firms such as Amazon, AMD, Arm, and more.
As per the details, Samsung and Google worked diligently to develop an open-source audio solution IAMF that allows viewers to experience audio as intended by creators. This technology has been specifically developed with home audio and mobile devices in mind.
IAMF consists of three features, the ability to express sound vertically, AI-based scene analysis and 3D audio effects, and a high level of audio customization. It also supports horizontal sound expansion, which can reproduce sound effects above and below.
Additionally, the IAMF can be used by both corporate and independent creators. Samsung believes that IAMF’s open-source nature will help expand its availability and usage. Consequently, it may come to TVs, soundbars, and smartphones in the future.
Executive Vice President and Head of Visual Technology Team at Samsung Research, said,
