The development of a 200-megapixel smartphone camera made by Samsung’s wireless business division and Samsung Electro-Mechanics has reached its final stages. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is its own leading provider of smartphone camera modules.

Also, Samsung is developing its Galaxy S23 smartphone cameras separately from Samsung Electro-Mechanics as part of its dual production strategy. Samsung has already started developing the first 200 million pixel image sensor.

To build a camera, a photosensor is needed that uses the corresponding number of camera pixels. The company is expected to install a 200-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra that will be released next year as its main camera.

However, it is not yet known whether the Korean smartphone giant has made a final decision about loading the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 200-megapixel camera. While the highest number of pixels on a Samsung smartphone at 108 million is the Galaxy S22 Ultra camera.

If Samsung uses the 200-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra to be released next year, it will be the first change in Samsung smartphone camera specification in four years.

Some experts predict that Samsung and Apple’s competition for smartphone cameras will heat the road. Apple plans to release the iPhone 14, which will include four-pixel numbered cameras, in the second half of 2022, and change camera specifications over seven years.
