The 13th version of Android brings a bundle of new features including themed app icons, per-app language preferences, color vector fonts, Bluetooth LE audio, a photo picker, and more. You can check the details of Android 13 features below.

Android 13 Features

1. Themed App Icons

Android 13 based on Material U has better look and feel. To make your device’s home screen look more cohesive and unique, you can customize non-Google apps to match your phone’s wallpaper themes and colors.

2. Per-app Language preferences

Google has added a top feature request for Android users who speak more than one language. Now you can set a specific language for each app, so you can keep your phone system in one language and each of your apps in a different language.

3. Media controls derived from PlaybackState

Android 13 has an updated media player that customizes its appearance based on the music or podcast you’re listening to. For example, when you’re listening to music, the media player highlights album artwork, and the play bar dances as you play a song. It also works with media played through Chrome.

4. Bedtime Mode

Android 13 brings new options and further customizes Bedtime Mode by reducing the wallpaper and dark theme. These screen options help your eyes adjust to the dark when you’re about to go to bed and back to sleep when you wake up in the middle of the night to check your phone.

5. Granular permissions for media file access

In Android 13, you can choose only the specific photos and videos that need to be accessed.

6. Clipboard preview

Now, you can prevent any unnecessary access to the clipboard. If you copy sensitive data such as email addresses, phone numbers, or login credentials to your device, Android will automatically clear your clipboard history after some time.

7. Notification runtime permission

Android 13 helps you take control of your notifications and make sure you only get the alerts you ask for. Apps you download now require your explicit permission to send notifications, instead of allowing notifications by default.

8. Using spatial audio makes you feel like you’re in it. On supported headphones, Spatial Audio changes the source of the sound based on how you move your head, giving you a more immersive listening experience on your Android phone or tablet.

9. You don’t want to interrupt your workflow to answer phone chats when you’re using your laptop. Soon, you’ll be able to stream the Messages app directly to your Chromebook so you can send and receive messages from your laptop.

10. Bluetooth LE

Android 13’s Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio is a newer Bluetooth audio standard that offers lower latency than Classic Audio. This allows you to better listen to audio in sync with the sound source, reducing latency.

With Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio, you can also enjoy the enhanced audio quality and broadcast audio on multiple devices at once.

11. Improved Text Support

You can copy and paste content (such as URLs, images, text, or videos) from your Android phone and onto your tablet. Alternatively, you can start on your tablet and paste it onto your phone.

12. Multi-window mode

With Android 13, multitasking on your tablet is even easier. With the newly updated taskbar on your tablet, you can see all your apps at a glance and easily drag and drop any app in your library into split-screen mode.

13. Improved compatibility experience

The Android tablet registers your palm and stylus as separate touches. So whether you’re writing or drawing on your tablet, you’ll experience fewer accidental stray marks because you can just keep your hand on the screen.

Apart from these features, Android 13 comes with other features such as HDR video support over third-party camera apps, an updated media output switcher, a Braille display for talkback, and more.
